The Historic Venue

Your one chance a year to dance to where it all began...No other Balboa event can compare in offering the historic Balboa Pavilion for the final dance night.

Built in 1905, it is the only remaining dance floor that existed when the famous Rendezvous Ballroom across the street held thousands of dancers.

The Bands

That's right! We've got everyone's new favorite - The Red Skunk Band playing for the Sunday dance at the Balboa Pavilion - This will be their ONLY appearance in SoCal in 2013 to date - a band you DO NOT want to miss.

To provide an event with a UNIQUE music experience we have booked the CA Feetwarmers & Icy Hot Club!!!

  2. Dancing with the masters at the Pavillion - that's the best. Next best? Bart Bartolo's answer when I asked him about the music. Can't write it here. Ask me in person.

  3. Helping the cars to get out of the sand at Balboa Rendezvous Ballroom , I said let half or more air out of your tires & you will get out. Dancing with my Mother in 1951 to Flying Home by Lionel Hampton , We were the only one's dancing & almost brought the House Down , It was on Blocks over the sand, OH I was also with my famous Model & dance partner , of which she turned down a movie part in 1950, We were at the Hollywood Pladiaum , dancing to Harry James , She said no thanks to the movie part with me, & she said I have a good job now. We are not actors .we just Act Up.

  4. 1947 as a world war 2 Marine , spending weekends dancing to Stan Kenton & a few time drinks with June Christy. dancing the balboa to fastest #'s Stan would play & lasting about 30 seconds with Miss Ballbearing ankles, Thats what we called her. Over the years I have been told I am the best Balboa dancer, & about 7 years ago Robert Goulet said my dance partner was the best he ever seen , & threw a bone at me & said I was something special. (it counted , he was with his wife.) At 86 , I am not 86. Maybe I better show up , but I want to dance to Jumping at the woodside by Woody Herman .

  5. My favorite memories are of dancing with some of the Masters in one of the venues where Balboa began and the instructors and in-class teaching assistants who help you break down the dance moves when something just isn't clicking for you.

  6. Finally warming up to Balboa & starting to feel pretty good at it--after trying unsuccessfully for 3 years! The in-class instructors who rotate & give you feedback are key.
